COVID-19 update from Department for Education

Remote learning at your school or preschool
Learning continuity is essential during the statewide lockdown.
Staff should focus on continuing their existing learning program using a delivery method that most closely reflects the mode that students use under normal conditions:
- printed materials
- a mix of printed materials and online delivery
- online delivery.
Schools and preschools must also provide learning for children of essential workers or those that are vulnerable or at risk who attend the site.
Preparing for remote learning
All teaching and learning programs should align to the Australian Curriculum and build on the learning prior to the lockdown.

ICT equipment for students
If your school or preschool has devices (iPads, laptops, wifi dongles etc) available for in-school use, please lend these out to students who need them, prioritising access to those students with the greatest need.

Recording student attendance
Schools are required to report on student attendance via EDSAS daily (by 4.00pm). This includes a requirement for schools to check on and report attendance for students learning from home.
Any student who is learning from home should be marked H (home study).
Remember to update student absences in your third-party learner management systems (Daymap, Academy, Sentral).
Preschools are also required to report on daily attendance and can submit it through EYS or EMS.
Business managers will be provided with further information about these processes.
Under the current level 5 restrictions, masks are required in high risk settings, health care service, passenger transport services and public places. At this stage schools, preschools and office buildings are exempt.
We will provide updates if the advice changes. Staff and students aged 12 and over can choose to wear a mask.
We have sent additional stocks of surgical masks to all sites for any staff member and student who wants to wear them.
Masks or face coverings should not be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
Travelling to and from work
Please be aware that SAPOL are increasing patrols of traffic movements. You may be pulled over to clarify the purpose of your trip.
Please carry your site ID (eg name badge with the site logo or corporate swipe card) to show SAPOL if required. You will need to explain that you are part of the skeleton staff for your site.
If the police officer requires further evidence, please call into the department’s COVID Hotline on 8226 2000. We will provide evidence to confirm employment.
We support SAPOL in implementing the stay at home order and expect employees to ensure travel is for essential reasons only.
TRT and casual employees
If a TRT or casual employee (for example, swimming or aquatics instructor) had a shift booked over the next 7 days that is now cancelled, they will be paid for the shift as if it was worked.
Sites need to process TRT payments as normal. For other casual employees, their scheduled hours will be paid as normal and sites need to record them as ‘absent on duty’ in the HRS.

Students with Disability Transport Assistance Program
This service will continue as required if a student is attending school during the lockdown.
- schools to advise the transport provider of the need for continued service for which student and days required
- schools to advise the Transport Assistance Program via email of the arrangement
